Inevitability

Wonder what it is that made you see
Pursue beyond fear of indignity
What it was, that I wanted to hear
And watch your lips, mouth to me

No hesitation or sidestepping
You came right up
Looked me in the eye
And then we knew
We knew right then
You and me
Had come to an end

An end of sorts,
Nothing too dramatic
Just an exchange of vows
(How odd the word
To use at such a time)
But we vowed together,
To never be near
In happiness or sorrow
Lend not a hand or ear
No shoulder to weep on
Would either of us seek
Maybe a smile of recognition
When we would find our will weak

That’s all that happened
No big deal you see
It’s been known to happen,
Just not so openly
Normally, one disagrees
And turns the cheek, to reality
But that’s why I like you
That’s why we’re so great

We understand it’s over,
We know the truth
No ones in denial
In search of a refuge
It had to happen,
Statistics don’t lie
Though we all start out
In a mood, to them, belie


Life gives a chuckle
As it watches us part
Moving on, alone at last
No need for sympathy
Or a pat on the back
I told you, it had to happen
And it happened at last…
